World’s energy ministers appeal to G8 for urgent action to end energy shortages
Energy ministers from across the world have appealed to the world’s richest nations to take urgent action to bring electricity to the poorest countries and ensure energy stability throughout the world with the spread of advanced energy technologies.

In spite of being richly endowed with traditional sources of energy, Russia is planning to develop renewable and alternative sources, said Sergei Mikhailov, deputy director of the Fuel and Energy Complex Department at the Russian Ministry of Industry and Energy.
Cooperation with UNESCO – a Matter of Principle
Addressing the 62nd session of the UNECE in Geneva, Viktor Khristenko said that 2006 had shown the effectiveness of multilateral dialogue in the energy sphere: ‘Even though the growth in the number of communication platforms for discussing energy issues in terms of geographical or sectoral principles has sometimes met with a mixed reaction, we consider the appearance of new platforms for discussion a positive phenomenon.’
From Saint-Petersburg to Heiligendamm via Paris
The Russian Ministry of Industry and Energy is co-sponsoring with UNESCO a ministerial conference “Energy in the Changing World.” The Conference will be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on 31 May – 1 June, 2007
